Why Whitelist Email Address or Domain?

Email servers and client programs are still not intelligent enough to determine when authentic correspondence is happening, as opposed to marketing spam. Consider also that the shady kind of marketers (not all marketers) continually adapt to appear as if they were sending authentic communication. One way to keep your real contact’s emails from getting marked as spam is to whitelist the email address or domain.

How to Whitelist Email Address or Domain

You can prevent email from a desired contact or company from going to your spam/junk folder by following these steps for Gmail, Yahoo, and MS Variants of Email.

Gmail

Add address to Gmail contacts

Add an email address that is sending to you (for example: sales@brightestoutsource.com) to your Contacts within your Gmail account. Yahoo typically does deliver email from addresses that you place in your Gmail Contacts.

Mark messages as Not spam

You can tell Gmail that any email you have received, regardless of which folder it is in, is not spam.

  1. Enter the email address or domain you want to whitelist (for example: sales@brightestoutsource.com or simply brightestoutsource.com).
  2. Select all of the emails shown.
  3. Click More and then Not spam.

Create a Filter

Create a filter to tell GMail to whitelist email from a domain.

  1. Click the cog icon in the top-right corner, and then Settings
  2. Click on Filters and then Create a new filter
  3. Enter the domain of the email you want to whitelist in the from field
  4. Click Create filter with this search
  5. In the box headed When a message arrives that matches this search select Never send it to spam
  6. Click the Create filter button
  • DO NOT!!! enter email addresses in both the From and To fields, since Gmail will only filter emails that meet both criteria
  • In both the From and To fields, you can enter either an email address or an entire domain
  • To enter multiple domains in either field separate them with OR as in “usbusinessdev.com OR brightestoutsource.com”

Yahoo

Add the address to Yahoo contacts

Add an email address that is sending to you (for example: sales@brightestoutsource.com) to your Contacts within your Yahoo account. Yahoo typically does deliver email from addresses that you place in your Yahoo Contacts.

Create a Filter

  1. Mouse over the Settings menu icon and select Settings
  2. Click Filters and then Add
  3. Enter a Filter Name
  4. Enter the domain of the email address that you want to whitelist in the Sender field.
  5. Select Inbox as the folder to deliver the email to
  6. Click Save and then click Save again

Tips:

  • DO NOT!!! enter email addresses in both the Sender and Recipient fields as Yahoo! will only filter emails that meet both criteria
  • In both the Sender and Recipient fields, you can enter either an email address or a domain
  • Create a new filter for each domain or email address that you want to whitelist

MS Variants of Email
